At Ludlow Riding Club we offer many opportunities to compete. We run summer Dressage and Clear Round Show Jumping events on grass at the lovely venue at Lower House Farm, Aston Munslow. Along with Area and Mercian events run by fellow Area 18 Riding Clubs throughout the region.
As these shows are run by the committee, we always require helpers on the day – whether that be warm up stewards, writers, fence judges, runners, etc there is always lots to do. No previous experience is necessary as full training will be given, just a smile and a good sense of humour is required. Volunteering at a show is a fabulous day out and gives you the chance to meet lots of new people.

British Riding Clubs (BRC) exists to provide support and encouragement to amateur riders of all levels – from the dedicated competitor to the happy hacker. We offer a range of events, training and qualifications through over 500 clubs and centres right across the UK.
2025 Standards – Hat tagging and body protectors - BRC Hat Rules 2025
All members must have their hats tagged before competing in any BRC Qualifier or Championship. For acceptable specifications check the Hat Standards Guidelines.
All competitors in cross-country phases must wear a BETA Level 3 (Blue Label) body protector manufactured in 2018 or later. - BRC Body Protector Guidance 2025
BBC is part of Area 18 and this year our Area Team Managers are Hayley Norgrove for Show Jumping, Eventing and anything jumping related, and Sarah Burden for Dressage competitions.
Area 18 encompasses parts of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. There are 15 affiliated clubs in this region.
The area is highly competitive and holds its own on the national circuit bringing home many championship trophies and awards every year across all disciplines.
As part of their commitment to fair and equal access they aim to run all available area qualifier competitions, as well as providing training opportunities for riders and horses of all abilities, across all disciplines while promoting a healthy, friendly, competitive atmosphere.
The running of all area events is done by volunteers and they are eternally grateful to them for the time invested to help everyone enjoy their horses.
An area liaison group meets 3 times a year to organise events, network with clubs and share the area’s successes. This is general attended by a representative from each club.
Area 18 operates a database system to collate the details of horses competing for each club. BRC rules require horses to meet strict rules on passport information and flu vaccination status and the Official Stewards at events need to verify that horses competing are compliant with the rules. To make life simpler we need riders to submit their horses’ details PRIOR to the day of a competition. This is done by your Area Team Manager and you will be contacted about this.
Submitting your horse’s details will speed up your check in time with the secretary on the day and, more importantly, prevent a wasted trip if your horse’s passport or flu record is found to be non compliant to the rules.
All data submitted is subject to checking at any stage by the Official Stewards. Knowingly submitting incorrect data could result in elimination and disciplinary action.
Finally…… Please remember it is an offence to transport a horse without its passport and all passports must be presented at each area qualifier, regardless of whether it is held on the database or not.
The Mercian league was set up to encourage grass-root riders to enter into team competitions within the riding club. Mercian competitions range from dressage to hunter trials, there is something for everyone to enter.
Dressage starts from Intro level and jumping is split into 60,70,80 90cm classes, teams normally consist of four team members. The competitions are at a range of venues based around the M5 and M50 corridor. Mercian level is for members aged 18+.
